Description

Light, cheery and decorative "Still Life of Flowers and Fruit," primarily in yellow, green, orange and blue - painted in oils by long-time summer resident Rae Carpenter.  The artist, who passed away in 1990, was a "hardy perennial favorite with Nantucket gallery goers" and was known for pictures of island scenes, beaches and other subjects with no "departure from reality."

Ms. Carpenter was a teacher in CT and summered on Nantucket for 60 years.  A graduate of Boston University and later Trinity College (Hartford, CT), Rae studied painting with numerous notables in the art world, including in France, Mexico and in Massachusetts and Connecticut.

A charter member of the Artists Association of Nantucket (AAN), Rae's work hung in island art shows for more than 40 years, including several one-women shows.  Most recently, her work was included in a 2007 exhibit mounted by the Artists Association of Nantucket: "An Island of Their Own, The First Ladies of Nantucket Art."  In addition, artwork by Rae Carpenter is part of the permanent collections of the New Britain (CT) Museum of American Art and the Artists Association of Nantucket.

The canvas itself measures 12" X 16". The gilt frame measures 16" X 20" at its widest point, with the frame being  1-1/2" deep.
