Description

The Story:
In Kentucky, herds of buffalo carved natural pathways that were followed by America’s first pioneers and explorers. On the spot where their migration route crossed the Kentucky River, we’ve been making legendary bourbon whiskey since 1787, making Buffalo Trace the oldest continuously operating distillery in America. We even received one of only four permits to remain operational during America's Prohibition – for “medicinal” purposes.

In tribute to the mighty buffalo and the rugged, independent spirit of the pioneers who followed them westward, we created Buffalo Trace Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey. To honor that rich history, we continue to craft Buffalo Trace in the same time-honored tradition. Slowly. Carefully. By hand. And we still enjoy making it as much as people enjoy drinking it. Within the past decade, Buffalo Trace has won more awards than any other distillery in the world, including seven “Distillery of the Year” titles. So here’s a toast to the hardworking craftspeople of Buffalo Trace Distillery who make Kentucky shine around the globe.

Buffalo Trace Distillery is a family-owned company based in Franklin County, Kentucky. The distillery's rich tradition dates back to 1787 and has included such legends as E.H. Taylor, Jr., George T. Stagg, Albert B. Blanton, Orville Schupp and Elmer T. Lee. Rich in history and hospitality, the distillery sits on 130 acres with four centuries of architecture represented on-site. Start your Bourbon Trail adventure at Buffalo Trace.

Elmer T. Lee

This is a single barrel bourbon. Unlike most this carries no age statement. It is bottled when Mr. Lee determines the barrel is at its peak. Like Bookers (from Jim Beam), it is named after the Master Distiller, or Distiller Emeritus of the distillery it comes from. This is the cream-of-the-crop of this particular recipe! It received a 91 rating from Wine Enthusiast.

Eagle Rare 10-year

 Paul Pacult, The Spirit Journal

The bright honey/topaz color shows sparkling bronze core features impeccable purity; the early aromas include gentle grain, toasted honey-wheat bread, and tobacco leaf with aeration, the aroma quickly transforms into a pedal-to-the-metal Bourbon bouquet as evolved scents of ripe banana and charcoal tweak the olfactory sense in the middle stage whiffs -- fragrances of lanolin, almond butter, melon, and oil accent the toastiness beautifully -- it's a somewhat restrained, or better, understated aroma but I sense lots of power lying just beneath the surface; my, my, my, what have we here -- in the mouth, this oily, toasty beauty seduces the taste buds at palate entry with dry flavors of cereal grain and mild oak resin -- the mid-palate tastes explode on the tongue in unabashedly sweet and oily flavors of black raisins, grape- fruit, charred oak, and candied almonds; the finish is long, corny sweet, moderately fiery, and lasciviously oily; easily one of the most tactile yet assertive and expressive Bourbons I've tasted in the last two years; fasten your seat belts.
