TREFETHEN VINEYARDS RESERVE CABERNET SAUVIGNON 1998, 6L

The Vineyard:Made exclusively from Trefethen’s Estate Vineyards, crafted primarily from grapes grown in the family's Hillside Vineyard in the foothills of the Mayacamas Mountains. A variety of gravelly, volcanic soils coupled with strong sun and ample stress result in intensely flavorful concentrated berries. 

The Vintage: The year of El Nino, 1998 will long be remembered as a year of extreme and challenging weather. Endless spring rains and cool temperatures reduced yields and caused poor cluster development requiring diligent fruit thinning to ensure proper crop load. Leaf pulling was a necessity to deter mildew. A spectacularly beautiful, warm fall ended in a late harvest of mature grapes with excellent balance of ripe flavors. 

The Wine: The color is intense, opulent ruby red. Oak-scented cherry and blackberry aromas lead to rich fruit on the palate. A perfect mix of bright berry flavors laced with tobacco and smoky oak with well-balanced tannins makes this wine luscious in the mouth through a long, lingering finish.
