Description
Orthoceras Fossil - imported from Morocco.
This extinct fossil from the Devonian Age lived in a shallow sea approximately 350 million years ago. This particular piece is a combination of several fossilized orthoceras shells. The orthoceras is distinguished by a straight, rather than curved shell, with a center siphuncle. This polished fossil is a relative of today's chamberized nautilus.
These straight shelled nautiloids ranged in size from less than a centimeter to more than 14 feet long! This fossil measures 13" x 8".
