Description

Winning bidder will receive this limited edition drawing of "Island Girl" by Artist Gay H.M. Powers. "Island Girl" was accepted at the White House Gift Department in 2009 for consideration for placement on the White House walls. The drawing measures 11 1/2"W X 16 3/4"H unframed.

In 1983 artist Gay H.M. Powers was enrolled in a portraiture class instructed by renowned artist Wayne Thiebaud. The assignment was to do a 3/4 portrait of a person quickly - about 2 to 3 hours. The model for the portrait is not a famous person, but a Polynesian friend of the artist. The results were beyond her expectations and she kept it, just like Leonardo kept the Mona Lisa, which is why the artist calls it the "Black Mona Lisa."
