Mark Wentzel is a conceptual sculptor, originally from the Detroit area, currently living and working in Atlanta, Georgia. His recent work, XLounge, a series of adapted Eames Lounge chairs, has generated international attention as a controversial representation of obesity and mass consumption. The 2009 exhibition, entitled Consequential Matters, at the Center's for Disease Control and Prevention, situated the work in realms of both art & design and science. A Spring 2009 exhibition at the Atlanta Contemporary Art Center of Mark's work explored the dynamics of the collapsing auto industry. His interests range from modern crises to social and scientific trends, cultural and industrial histories, and modern and contemporary icons. Mark received an M.A. from Eastern Michigan University in 2001. His work has been exhibited in New York, Washington D.C. and Atlanta.
