Steve Locke was born in Cleveland, Ohio, raised in Detroit, Michigan and lives and works in Boston, Massachusetts. He makes work that uses the tools of painting, specifically its ability to direct the gaze, to make visible and readable the unwritten codes of masculinity, whiteness, pleasure and desire. He makes paintings, drawings, books, mail art and installations.
