Born in 1981 and educated at State College of Pennsylvania, Luke D. Yocum is the youngest of three brothers raised in Lewistown, PA, by his parents Mike and Kathie Yocum. The young artist grew up in an ultraconservative suburban home and community. In 2005, Luke decided to become a full-time artist after seeing Cy Twombly's Apollo collection at the Philadelphia Museum. He was influenced by and begins to study artist such as Elisabeth Peyton, Francis Bacon, Pablo Picasso, William De Kooning, Francesco Clemente, Julian Schnabel, Barbera Kruger, Jasper Johns, Matt Sesow, and Andy Warhol. Yocum has recently adopted a DIY policy and is representing himself. He is currently painting in Chelsea NYC but claims Central PA as his home...
