Description

This exquisite sculpture in serpentine is created by the Zimbabwean artist Takesure Muzengeza. This piece was inspired by eight ancient massive monoliths which once stood above the eastern enclosure of the ancient stone city called Great Zimbabwe; these ancient stone sculptures are the earliest known examples of Shona stone sculpture. The prehistoric stone Zimbabwean birds, which works resided for a period in England and South Africa, have now been returned to their country of creation. This bird is believed by the Shona people to be the ancestral link to the heavens and is sometimes called Shiri ya Mwari, the Bird of God. The stone eagle is now been endowed as the national symbol of Zimbabwe.

This piece is brought to WoofBay by the prestigious Spirits in Stone Gallery, situated on the east side of Sonoma Plaza, in the historic town of Sonoma, California. Spirits in Stone represents the highest quality of sculpture and other fine art objects that can be found in Northern California.
