Our BIA baskets, also called Bolga Baskets, are hand woven of grasses in the village of Bolgatanga. Our tightly woven baskets are of superior quality and each one is unique! When you purchase one of these baskets, you are helping the very poor of northern Ghana support their families. The word "Bolgatanga" means soft, rocky land. This land does not support agriculture well and erratic rainfall and harsh weather make it even more difficult. Basket weaving, leather work, and pottery are undertaken mostly by the women to supplement their incomes from subsistence farming. Our network of weavers includes more than 600 hard-working people. The fair price we pay for these baskets in American dollars goes a long way to feed, house, educate, and provide health services for families in the Bolgatanga region.
