In 2008, the San Francisco Giants selected catcher Buster Posey as its No. 5 pick in the first round of the baseball draft.

Posey played college baseball at FSU, moving to catcher in his sophomore year.  After one year of playing catcher, he was a finalist for the Johnny Bench Award, and in 2008 he was awarded the Johnny Bench Award, given to the best catcher in college baseball.  Posey was also named 2008 Collegiate Baseball Player of the year and the best player in the 2008 NCAA Division 1 Tallahassee Regional.  In June he was awarded the Dick Howser Trophy and in July he won the Golden Spikes Award, given to the best player in amateur baseball. Posey was also named the AC's Scholar Athlete of the Year and won the Brooks Wallace Award.
