Description
Acrylic on canvas, 24"x30", unsigned, c.1975
Robert Harvey, 1924-2005, was active in the Bay Area in the 1950s and '60s. In the 1970s he moved to Spain and lived in Andalusia painting and teaching for more than thirty years. He is well known for his "Family Album" series of paintings based on old snapshots imitating the sepia tones and high contrast of old family photos. This is an unsigned portrait of a young African-American man he met on a visit to San Francisco in the mid 1970s.
