Description

Sun Valley local wine makers who are current or former parents bring you three bottles of their delicious home-crafted wines.

Sun Valley dad, Ken Reich, has been making wine for over 10 years.  His 2008 California Barbera, is a medium-bodied red wine that shows a wonderful concentration of red fruits, silky texture, very ripe, with good acidity. It was aged in French Oak and will make a fine contribution to your dinner table.

Sun Valley dad, Jared Huffman's Steelhead Syrah is a  delicious, very dark, full-bodied, 100% Syrah with 84% of the grapes coming from Amador County’s famed Shenandoah Valley and 16% from the Huffman’s own front yard in San Rafael. .  It’s the latter grapes that give the wine a distinct black pepper flavor.   It has nothing to do with the fact that daughter Abby helped crush the grapes the old fashioned way:  by stomping them (with very clean feet!).   Home winemaking has been as a hobby/addiction of Jared’s for the past eight years.  He won 2nd place at the Marin County Fair last year for his 2006 Syrah.  This 2009 “Steelhead Syrah” is arguably his best wine yet

The 2009 Barbera “Ella” was hand crafted  by a former Sun Valley dad – Steve Johnson.  Barbera, is often a flat but quaffable jug wine. Not this one! In the style of Barbera d’Alba, this clean, complex wine starts with the unmistakable nose of the Barbera grape, but finishes with rich vanilla notes of its new French oak barrel.  Taking a first place in its class at the Marin County Fair, Barbara “Ella”, is much more than a pizza wine.
