You only have to look at 49ers Tight End Vernon Davis to know that he is a football star in the making. Vernon was drafted by San Francisco in the with the sixth overall pick of the 2006 NFL Draft, making him the third highest Tight End selection in the history of the Draft. Upon entering the league, Davis signed to a 5-year, $23 million deal that made him the highest paid Tight End at the time. Vernon attended Dunbar High School in Washington, D.C. and the University of Maryland, where in 2005, Davis was a Consensus All-American and All-Atlantic Coast Conference first-team selection while leading the team with 51 receptions and the conference with 871 receiving yards (17.1 avg). Vernon finished his college career with 1371 yards on 83 receptions for a gaudy 16.5 yards per catch, the best average of any first round Tight End selection ever. And in 2009, Vernon's third season, he's showing why the 49ers put so much faith in him, leading the team in receptions and receiving yards and amongst the League leaders in TD catches.
