This lovely art gourd bowl is 11 inches in diameter and features the incorporation of walnut slices in the pine needle basketry.  The piece was cut, cleaned and coated inside with wood stain and painted on the outside with shades of archival ink before being coated with polyurethane  Long pine needles from the woods of North Carolina were stitched together with synthetic sinew.
