The Winning bidder will receive a certificate for a weatherization assessment from The Green Guild.  The Green Guild is a new company that performs energy audits and weatherization services to individual and muti-family homes.  Through this work, we expect to reduce the energy consumption of the average home by approximately 10 to 40 percent.  In this way, saving the homeowner money and reducing each home’s energy use and carbon footprint.

We are donating to the auction the energy audit which includes a report on what type and cost of remediation necessary to weatherize the home. 

Whole house remediation including weather-stripping, caulking, spot and pipe insulation generally costs ~$2000.  While the cost of the weatherization package is not being donated, the money spent for weatherization services can be recovered through a combination of rebates from the utilities (for natural gas customers specifically) and a Tax Credit from the government.  Once rebates and tax credits are received, the homeowners out-of-pocket costs are generally around zero.
