Winning bidder will have Dr. Gazelle, Devotion parent and Harvard Medical School Assistant Professor, make a one and a half hour home visit to you or an aging parent. This nationally recognized expert will provide personalized coaching on such issues as how to improve communication with your doctor or between multiple doctors, tips to feel more empowered in your healthcare, and how to make sure you never leave a hospital sicker than you went in.  (Auction item is for individual living in Brookline/Newton area; $100/hour travel time charge will be added for individuals beyond 15 minute driving range.)


 


Gail Gazelle, MD, FACP, FAAHPM is a member of the Division of General Medicine and Primary Care at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital. Board-certified in Internal Medicine as well as Palliative Medicine, she is the former director of the Harvard Vanguard palliative care and pain programs. For the past decade, she has worked part-time as a hospice medical director.


 


In her twenty years in practice, Dr. Gazelle has been involved in the care of thousands of seriously ill patients and understands that many people feel like their needs are not being met by the healthcare system. She has devoted her entire professional career to providing the tools people need to get the care they deserve.  


 


Dr. Gazelle is author of patient advocacy booklets “Don’t Leave the Hospital Sicker Than You Went In! A Doctor’s 106 Tips for a Healthy and Safe Hospital Experience” and Being Treated for Cancer? A Doctor’s 137 Tips to Keep Your Life Healthy and Manageable.”


 


In her capacity as an advocate for excellence in care, Dr. Gazelle has been featured on such venues as the National Public Radio show “All Things Considered,” CNN, Business Week, The Washington Post, Forbes, The Baltimore Sun, and American Medical News. Her articles have been published in The New England Journal of Medicine, Journal of the American Geriatrics Society, Journal of Clinical Oncology, and other top medical journals.
