Description
Referred to as "warm glass", glass fusion is one of the oldest forms of glass making. Instead of blowing the glass, torches and kilns are used to make the glass molten. In this art piece, each kindergartner began with hand cut, broken, pulled, and ground pieces of glass and other objects. They were given a 2" x 2" clear glass tile and adhered their broken pieces to the tile using an array of colors and shapes. Each tile was then delivered to the kiln where they were fired and melted. Once cooled, each piece was drilled and hung with thin copper wire into a 4' x 6' rectangular shape. The tiles are hung from a copper valance that can be placed over a window for the sun to shine through. The final work of art is a uniform stained-glass look, with a beautifully random and colorful representation of each child's vision. This splendid masterpiece will make any window sparkle!
