Rothko wrote in 1947 that he favored “the simple expression of the complex thought.”  With that in mind, take a look at the second graders’ reproduction of Rothko’s style.  Using chalk only, these students composed luminous, soft-edged rectangles and arranged them horizontally on large pieces of paper.  The color and stability of these pieces truly represent Rothko’s vision.
