Description

The Original Cafe Du Monde is a traditional coffee shop.  The Beignet is a square piece of dough, fried in vegetable oil and lavishingly covered with powdered sugar.  It is also known as the French Market Doughnut and is the Louisiana State Doughnut.

The taste for coffee and chicory was developed by the French during their civil war. Coffee was scarce during those times, and they found that chicory added body and flavor to the brew.
