Original drawing by local artist, Michelle McNeil.  This colorful drawing reflects the artist's obsession with number games, in particular Sudoku puzzles.  This particular piece is based on the Sudoku puzzle that appeared on February 7, 2009 in the Los Angeles Times.  The numbers from that puzzle are assigned a color and placed in a square or shape according to the puzzle.  This then creates what at first seems to be a random grid of color, but in fact has a very logical order due to the nature of the game.  From there, the drawing is further manipulated to something even more colorful and complex. 

The artist also works extensively with beads on fabric and canvas.  This translates into the colorful jewel quality and delicate thread-like lines that can be seen in her drawings.  Michelle McNeil grew up in Long Beach and received her BFA degree from Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, CA.  She shows her work locally and throughout the United States.
