MISALLIANCE
by George Bernard Shaw
directed by Martin Benson
Sep 10 - Oct 10
When South Coast Repertory teams up with George Bernard Shaw— it's a relationship that has wowed theatre audiences with stellar productions and countless awards. Now the fun begins anew, and Shaw is at his mischievous best, turning his sharp wit to the relationship between parents and children. While the elders argue ideas and morals, the younger generation longs for action, adventure, love and independence. Especially Hypatia, who is tired of all the talk and ready for something to happen. Finally it does!
When Martin Benson teams up (figuratively) with G.B. Shaw, they win awards, and Benson’s first staging of Misalliance was a huge winner. “I was eager to do it again,” he said, “but only with a great actor in the lead role—and I got Dakin Matthews.” At the height of a career that includes tour de force performances as C.S. Lewis in Shadowlands and Polonius in Hamlet, Matthews could make it one for the ages.
