Description
Famed as the most important laquerware center in Mexico, the artists of the small village of Olinala in the state of Guerrero still produce these painstaking decorative items in the traditional manner. Taking over a month to create the finished box and tray, the wood is sanded, varnished with oils and earthen pigments, burnished with stones, then infused with other pigments even before the delicate tracery of exotic birds and fish is worked into the surface. A labor of artistry and love, these pieces would lend a note of beauty and time honored tradition to any home.
