Description

Abstract by Artist Virginia Ochs Clagett, who was a member of our church until her death in 1992. She was a contemporary of Esther Levy, Missy Weems and Josie Thoms. Her art often took honors in Maryland competitions. . Her paintings were exhibited and sold at the Maryland Federation of Art and the Aurora Gallery.. Three of her works hang in the UUCA (on the
landing wall of the back stairs and in the downstairs hallway). This piece (circa 1980's) was from her torn canvas collage/sculpture period, with muted pastel colors which change hue within each section.  The title of this Moonscape is "Euclid Alone" a reference to the line in an Edna St. Vincent Millay poem "Euclid alone has looked on beauty bare".  30 years ago her paintings were priced in the $1500-3000 range
