Description

Jimmy Carter, the 39th President, offers his views on moral values in relationship to key issues including preemptive war, women’s rights, terrorism, civil liberties, the death penalty, science and religion, and threats to the environment.   This new hardback book describes his strong personal views about the separation of church and state and the blurring of the lines between politics and rigid fundamentalism. Criticizing Christian fundamentalists for their "rigidity, domination and exclusion," he suggests that their open hostility toward a range of sinners runs counter to America's legacy of democratic freedom.  His book describes his belief that these conflicts are not hopeless or never-ending.
