Born in Poland in 1972, Mariusz Czerkawski made a name for himself in the United States as a professional ice hockey player, in addition to playing for a number of European teams. "The Polish Prince" began his professional career in 1990 playing for the Boston Bruins. In his fifteen years in the NHL, Czerkawski also played with the Edmonton Oilers, the New York Islanders, the Montreal Canadiens, and the Toronto Maple Leagues. He then played for the Rapperswil-Jona Lakers of the NLA before retiring from the game in 2008. Czerkawski is perhaps best known for being the first Polish-born and â"trained player to play in the NHL.
