"Waxing Poetic." This year's fifth grade students had the opportunity to deepen their understanding of and appreciation for people in history who have fought for freedom--the freedom of others, their selves, and for their change-provoking ideas. Each student self-selected and read a biography and used on-line databases to gather information to thoroughly get acquainted with the famous person he or she chose to study. The students wrote research papers and poetry about their famous persons. The students had the opportunity to showcase their knowledge on Friday, April 26, at our class wax museum. Our book, "Waxing Poetic," is a documentation of the students wax museum projects and their poetry.
