Since the runaway success of her 1990 debut Platinum album Circle of One, and the hit single "Get Here" (a Brenda Russell composition), Oleta Adams has inspired a growing legion of fans in the U.S. and Europe with journeys of the heart via songs that draw deeply from her roots in gospel, while crossing effortlessly into the realms of other music genres. Oleta's success has been solidified by four Grammy nominations.
Oleta was recruited by the British Band Tears for Fears and appeared on their 1989 "The Seeds of Love' album, video and European tour. Since then, she has had worldwide tours with Phil Collins, Michael Bolton, and Luther Vandross.
With eight CDs, including secular, gospel, and a Christmas album, and almost three million albums sold, Oleta's musical odyssey continues.
Oleta's newest album is Let's Stay Here. Oleta wrote eight of the ten songs and produced this album herself. It is a creative and evocative project with a soulful jazz influence. The songs weave through a journey of a seductive love affair, vacation bliss, an abusive relationship, and forgiveness. It also includes a cover of Nina Simone's "Feeling Good" which was used in a recent Buick TV commercial.
Oleta is a resident of Kansas City, KS, where she finds sanctuary from the entertainment industry. She remains anchored by her upbringing in Seattle and Yakima, Washington. Oleta first demonstrated her musical gifts at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church where her father was the minister. By the time she was 11, Oleta was playing the piano and directing four choirs. She credits her further musical development to her junior high school teacher Lee Farrell, who she describes as "the brilliant Julliard-trained teacher and voice coach.
