Born Lawrence Wendell Pfohl in 1958, Lex Luger is known for his career as a professional wrestler. During high school, Luger wrestled and played football, even briefly attending Pennsylvania State University on a football scholarship. Although he pursued a career as a football player for a short time, he quickly turned to professional wrestling. In 1985 he debuted in the National Wrestling Alliance's Florida territory and by 1987 he had earned the nickname "The Total Package" and began working with World Championship Wrestling. That year Luger won his first NWA United States Heavyweight Championship, but not his last. He has also earned the title in the WVW, as well as World Heavyweight Championship, World Tag Team Championship, and World Television Championship. ProWrestling Illustrated has bestowed countless titles upon him, too, including three Feud of the Year Awards, a Match of the Year, a Wrestler of the Year, and a Most Popular Wrestler of the Year title. Luger retired from professional wrestling in 2006.
