Wyland was born in Detroit, Michigan. He was a student of the Center for Creative Studies in Detroit and majored in sculpture and painting. After graduating, Professors Jay Holland, Russel Keeter and Bill Gerard urged Wyland to relocate to California where he could continue to improve on his already evident artistic talent.
Wyland has earned the reputation as one of America's most exceptional innovative influences, as well as an outspoken advocate for marine resource conservation. His non-profit Wyland Foundation has supported several conservation programs since 1993, including Wyland's monumental Whaling Wall mural project â" an epic series of more than ninety-one life size marine life murals that spans twelve countries on four continents, and is viewed by an estimated 1 billion peopleevery year. The artist's efforts, moreover, have been recognized by the United Nations, Sierra Club, the Underwater Academy of Arts and Sciences, where he is listed among its Diving Hall of Fame, and private and public institutions throughout the world.
California-born Jim Warren began painting at a young age, but it wasn't until high school that he decided to make it a career path. Since then, Warren has made a name for himself, particularly as an environmentalist â" 1990's "Earth ⦠Love It or Lose It" has been acclaimed as a visual representation for the global environmental movement. Warren has received countless awards over the years, include a Grammy Award for 'Best Album Package.' Warren's philosophy of art is concise and to the point: 'To hell with the rules...paint what you like.'
Wyland and Warren began collaborating in 1992, a union which showcases both of their specialties â" Wyland's marine life and Warren's people.
