Description
"Foraging" Mark Asmus, a Taos, NM oil painter, is the grandfather of Gibbs Waxter, CHVE second grader, and Fairleigh Waxter, CHVE kindergartener. Asmus moved to Taos in 2007 from Baltimore, MD, where, after retiring as an engineer from Bethlehem Steel, was following his love of children and teaching by substituting in a local elementary school. At the same time, Asmus discovered another passion, painting, which ultimately led him to the wonderful art community of Taos, NM. When Gibby and Leigh visited their “Poppy” in Taos last summer, they helped him give a lecture about his current exhibit at the Millicent Rogers Museum. Gibby’s and Leigh’s time spent mingling with the guests and talking so lovingly about Poppy’s paintings resulted in several additional sales after the lecture. In late October, 2010, Gibby and Leigh helped Asmus sell another donated painting at the “Fandango” fundraiser for the Taos Historic Museums. Look for Gibby and Leigh to continue lobbying for the sale of the painting, “Foraging”, that their grandfather has donated to the CHVE auction.
