Description

4 Complementary tickets to the house of the Seven Gables Hawthorne House and Meuseum Store.

The House of the Seven Gables Settlement Association, established in 1910, is the vision of Caroline O. Emmerton. Emmerton’s grandfather, Captain John Bertram, a wealthy philanthropist, influenced her involvement in the community. As one of the country’s first activists in colonial revivalism, Emmerton rescued New England’s oldest surviving mansion and restored it to its full glory. She initiated tours of the Turner-Ingersoll Mansion that illustrated the story of Nathaniel Hawthorne’s novel The House of the Seven Gables. The fabled ‘cent shop’ was exhibited within the home, as well as other artifacts and furnishings from the period, to bring Hawthorne’s work to life.
