Cynthia Whalen Nelson of Narragansett, RI loves to paint along the New England shore and in this work, Matunuck Farm Path, she beautifully captures the look of a local byway as the sun wanes in the sky.

Cynthia is a graduate of Rhode Island School of Design, and her paintings primarliy depict land that is open-spaced and pastoral. She starts with a fleshy, warm-toned underpainting, and finishes with thin layers of color. This technique lends itself to evoking the spirit of the land, as if it's telling a story. Cynthia works mainly in oil and pastel, and uses plaster in her 3D works.
