Description

It’s a landmark that helps keep sailors safe off Aquidneck Island. It’s Castle Hill Light, portrayed in watercolor by Richard Grosvenor of Newport, RI.

Erected in 1890 and still in use today, the lighthouse, situated at the end of Newport’s famous Ocean Drive, is often used as a starting/stopping point for regattas.

For years the operator of Newport's Spring Bull Studio and Gallery, Richard Grosvenor headed up the Art Department at Newport's St. George's School for 40 years. He paints in oil and watercolor and has had several solo shows here and in New York. A Grosvenor painting of the White House was featured in a calendar commissioned by President and Mrs. Clinton. He is a longtime supporter of the Rhode Island PBS Arts Auction.
