Afghan Caucasian Rug
Item Number: 223
Time Left: CLOSED
Description
Beautiful things can emerge from the saddest and most challenging of times.
This superb carpet is a representative example of a whole new school of weaving that grew out of the mass exodus of Afghan refugees into Pakistan during the Russian invasion.
The Hezari tribes, as a way of making a living in a foreign land, rejuvenated the wonderful woven designs from the Caucasian Mountain areas of Iran and east of Turkey.
These rugs began to hit the US market in the late 1980's and continue now to source from Afghanistan as their weavers return home from the refugee camps near Peshwar.
Made from vegetable dyes and replicating old village designs, this rug and others like it surely be tomorrow's valued antiques.
This is a Live Event Item.
