Description

This carved wooden statue should have special meaning for women and those who love the women in their lives.

The statue is of the goddess Tara. In Hinduism, her name means "star"; she is the second of the Great Wisdom deities.  As the star is seen as a beautiful but perpetually self-combusting thing, so Tara is perceived at core as the absolute, unquenchable hunger that propels all life.

In Buddhism, Tara is a Bodhisattva who appears as a female Buddha; she is known as the "mother of liberation", and represents the virtues of success in work and achievements.

The statue is in very good condition. It is finely detailed front and back, and stands 10" high. The wood has warm, golden-brown earth tones.
