Description
Southern Central was just one of those projects that was destined to happen. Way back in 1965 two very young aspiring musicians were starting this journey, one born in Arkansas and the other from Oklahoma. They hooked up at the tender age of 12 for their first “band” and as they say, “the rest is history”. Now after marinating for 40 years in all the musical styles the South has to offer, (Blues, Southern Rock, Blue-grass, Country and Soul ) Don Singleton and Richard Bryant are together again.
Though they played together in some early Memphis “garage bands” like Shad and the King Lears, they travelled different roads for the next 30 years or so. Bryant stayed in the Memphis area and absorbed r & b, rock, southern rock and jazz with groups like Delta, Jimmy Hart & the Gentrys and Entourage. Meanwhile, Singleton spent time with Memphis favorites Silver City Band, Shylo and always popular Settlers.
Singleton moved east to Nashville where he enjoyed great success. His songwriting won awards for #1 hits “Fool for your Love” recorded by Mickey Gilley,"Take Me to the Country" from Mel McDaniels and the Crystal Gayle single "Deeper in the Fire". He penned numerous top ten and Platinum album cuts with Artists like Randy Travis, Conway Twitty, and blue-grass legends The Osburnes and Seldom Scene. All in all, he had over 65 cuts of his songs by numerous Country artists and work for some of the largest publishing companies in Nashville.
Today, these two are combining their music again with a new project, SOUTHERN CENTRAL BAND. Now they have the opportunity to “finish” what they started many years ago, and you have the opportunity to hear it from the beginning. As this long road unfolds
“ WHERE THE MUSIC OF THE SOUTH COMES TOGETHER “.
