Summer Sky is a poured acrylic original and typical of Ms. Curry’s painting technique. 22” x 23” Diluting the acrylic paint with water, the artist pours the paint and moves the paint over the paper with a flat, plastic card as the first layer of her composition. Adding layers and layers of acrylic and gloss medium, the design evolves from abstraction to realism. With every layer the work takes on character and definition.
Virginia Donelson Curry, native Memphian, is currently the Lower School art teacher at Lausanne Collegiate School. After graduating from St. Mary’s Episcopal School she attended Hollins College in both Roanoke, VA and London, England.
Always a student of the arts, Virginia creates principally with three media – yarn, paint and clay. She is currently part of a four member show at Lausanne and has had pieces displayed in Memphis and Monteagle, TN.
