About Portside Grill…

Vicki Hall has worked in Bar Harbor restaurants for many years and took the plunge into restaurant ownership in 2006. The Island Chowder House, as it had been known for 22 years, was appealing in its location, size, layout, and real estate attributes. With the help of friends, she spent the winter of 2006-2007 giving the restaurant a fresh facelift with LOTS of paint and the woman’s touch it so desperately needed. When she weren’t covered in sawdust and paint, she was running “test kitchens” at home trying out prospective menu recipes on friends and family.

In May 2007, Portside Grill was born. She started with a “soft” opening by inviting friends, family, and colleagues to audition the menu and staff in front of a forgiving audience. She is so grateful to her friends, who pitched in to work for with me in my first season, and to the community for welcoming Portside Grill with such great enthusiasm. She is delighted to offer the kind of food she cooks at home… nothing but fresh simple ingredients assembled to her liking. All her recipes are prepared “Trans Fat Free,” use local ingredients as often as possible, and make every effort to be environmentally friendly by adopting a “reduce, reuse, recycle” policy.
