Project Assistant Curator, Carrie Pilto, will guide you and three friends through this major exhibition that will reunite the extraordinary collections of author Gertrude Stein, her brothers Leo and Michael Stein, and MichaelA?s wife Sarah Stein. All American ex-patriots, the Steins were part of the vibrant cultural life of Paris in the early 20th century. The exhibition will demonstrate the importance of the SteinsA? patronage to the artists of their day and how they disseminated a new standard of taste for modern art A? for the works of Picasso and Matisse in particular, as well as for contemporaries including Bonnard, Cézanne, Gris, Laurencin, Lipchitz, Manguin, Picabia, Renoir and Vallotton.
