6 bottles of 2004 Groth Cabernet Sauvignon Oakville Napa Valley wine.

Vintage:  The grapevines got off to an early start in 2004 thanks to incredibly warm weather in early spring. An early start was tempered by cooler weather during the summer interspersed with heat spikes.  The results were clusters with excellent fruit character and development in both whites and reds.  The 2004 will go down in the books as a stellar vintage.

Harvest:  The Cabernet Sauvignon fruit is grown on the Estate controlled vineyards, in the Oakville AVA, in the heart of the Napa Valley.  The Oakville District is renowned for its Cabernet Sauvignon and produces wines that are full, lush and very elegant.

Winemaker Tasting notes:  The sequential replanting program of 60 acres of Cabernet began in 1998, culminating with the replanting of the last block in 2002.  Most of the replanted vineyards were back into mature production for the 2004 harvest. The 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon is big and lush with huge gobs of fruit in the aroma and flavor.  The texture of the wine is soft and supple, typical of Cabernet Sauvignons grown in the area of the Oakville AVA.  Patience during bottle aging will reward the “steward” with an outstanding bottle over the next 10 to 15 years.

Menu suggestion: “A slab and a Cab”, Dennis Groth recommends you drink his Cabernet Sauvignon with steak.

Key Points:

  • Oakville Appellation

  • Cabernet Sauvignon 87%, Merlot 13%

  • Aged in French oak barrels for 20 months, 50% new French oak.
