Description
The movie Ben Hur premiered locally at the Granada Theater in 1959, but you don't have to like gladiator movies to enjoy it today. Dallas' first theatre with built-in air conditioning has been reborn as a venue for live music. Amid its old movie house interior, an eclectic and ever-changing mix of indie groups, local favorites and well-known national acts jam here weekly. All leave praising the venerable old room and its state-of-the-art audio system. This well-run club has four bar areas, seating in the balcony and easy parking. And it still shows gladiators on the big screen whenever the Cowboys are playing. Psychedelic Furs will be playing "Talk Talk Talk" in its entirety followed by a set of their greatest hits! From the late 1970's into the 90's, The Psychedelic Furs earned tremendous respect from critics and fans alike for their music's mix of punk rock, poetic lyricism and seductive rhythmic hooks. Fronted by vocalist and chief songwriter, Richard Butler, The Furs built a reputation as one of the most riveting musical forces to come out of the early 80s post-punk, new wave era. The band charted big hits with "Love My Way," "Pretty In Pink," "Heaven," and "The Ghost In You," and "Heartbreak Beat" in all releasing seven studio albums on Columbia and spawning several compilations including a box set , "Should God Forget: A Retrospective."
