Description

It’s a gallery of Newport's elite and its haute bourgeoisie!

“Newportraits” is the catalog of a past exhibition at the Newport Art Museum featuring portraits of Newporters from the 18th-Century to modern times. The book features images of the city’s elite and more; it’s also a showcase of some of the most famous and influential portrait artists in American history.

Some of the great colonial portraitists are represented, including Rhode Islander Gilbert Stuart (whose image of Washington adorns the dollar bill), Robert Feke, and John Singleton Copley.  Modern figures include Diego Rivera, Larry Rivers, Andy Warhol and more.
