The three ships are masterfully portrayed as they heave upon a rolling sea, their sails billowing under a brisk wind. In the bow of the lead ship - the “Santa Maria” – stands Columbus, buoyant with hope and self-confidence. It is brilliantly trimmed in 22-karat gold.
