Description
Say hello to a new-for-1938 console radio, model 38-7XX by Philco! This 6-tube beauty featured two new, exclusive Philco features: "Cone-Centric Tuning" and the "No Squat, No Stoop, No Squint" control panel. This refers to the panel housing the knobs and dial; it's tilted to allow a standing person to operate the controls more comfortably.
Cone-Centric Tuning uses a knob that spins around the outside of the dial, rather than sitting below it, allowing fast tuning between stations around the dial. This radio receives both standard, AM broadcasts, as well as international shortwave.
It’s been electronically restored but the restorer also let the radio demonstrate how well it was cared for: Unusually for a radio of this age, the speaker cloth is in remarkable, original condition. Even more rare - most of the fiberboard rear cover remains intact!
Special Instructions
Contrary to what you may read on the rear panel, this radio's original guarantees have both expired!
