Every December since 1991, the Sebastopol Ballet School has staged "The Nutcracker Ballet." The Nutcracker was first performed in the U.S. by the San Francisco Ballet, and it has since become a holiday tradition.

The ballet tells the story of a girl named Clara, her gift of a Nutcracker from the mysterious Herr Drosselmeyer, and her ensuing magical adventures on Christmas Eve.

The story is by E.T.A. Hoffman and the music is by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. The Nutcracker was originally choreographed by Marius Petipa.
