Hosted visit to historically significant Dix Island in Penobscot Bay.  Day trip to 70 acre island near South Thomaston for up to four persons with lunch provided.  Leave Spruce Head Island in 22 ft open motorboat, travel three miles to Dix Island where once 1600 persons lived, quarrying and carving granite for major buildings in New York, Philadelphia, and Washington, DC.   Compare through old 1870 photos what this island looked like then and now. Swim in a quarry. Spot eagles and warblers. Search for old pottery or just relax.
