Description
"Stones into Schools: Promoting Peace with Books, Not Bombs, in Afghanistan and Pakistan"
A Hardcover edition of Greg Mortenson's acclaimed follow-up to "Three Cups of Tea".
"Using schools not bombs to promote peace is a goal that even the most hard-hearted can admire, but to blandly call this book inspiring would be dismissive of all the hard work that has gone into the mission in Afghanistan as well as the efforts to fund it. Mortenson writes of nothing less than saving the future, and his adventure is light years beyond most attempts. Mortenson did not reach the summit of K2, but oh, the heights he has achieved."
"I don't want to say that "Stones into Schools" is better than "Three Cups of Tea" because both books are about the development of the same remarkable journey. However, speaking strictly in terms of writing and structure, it is certainly more engaging and captivating, ...
Stones into Schools" continues where "Three Cups of Tea" left off and describes the development of the Central Asia Institute's (CAI) efforts. ... There are moments throughout the book where I have laughed, cried, felt pride, felt admiration, sadness and other emotions. Few books can cause such a variety of emotions to be triggered, sometimes all at once or from one page to the other.
Although, much can be said about this book, I feel the best review I can give would be to simply state, "Read it for yourself." Whatever I say, will not do justice to actually reading it. "
