Description
The Doris and Don Fisher Collection is one of the largest and most important private collections of late 20th century art in the world. The collection is largely unseen, except by the privileged few. Eventually much of the collection will move to SFMOMA, but not for several years. Why wait?! This is your opportunity to get a private tour of this amazing collection at Gap corporate headquarters with the curator who knows the collection intimately. You will begin at the 5 story tall Richard Serra acoustic sculpture, "Charlie Brown," once host to an aria sung by Bono. Then it's on to a guided tour of the two main galleries, as well as an exclusive tour of the art on the rarely visited boardroom floor. This collection contains works by contemporary masters such as Roy Lichtenstein, Agnes Martin, Gerhard Richter, Brice Marden, Sol LeWitt, Andy Warhol, Alexander Calder, Chuck Close and Ellsworth Kelly. Along with the thrill of viewing this unparalleled collection, you’ll hear stories about how the Fishers met and supported the artists and about the challenges of housing a world-class art collection in the midst of a working office building. After the tour, your group of 12 will head to San Francisco's sparkling waterfront for dinner at the Epic Roasthouse. Perched on the edge of the Bay, this steakhouse offers fabulous fare from the traditional to the contemporary – in addition to stunning views! Epic Roasthouse has picked out a selection of wines to accompany your dinner. (http://www.epicroasthouse.com/food.php.) Your group of 12 art connoisseurs will take this exclusive tour of the Gap's staggering art collection and dine at Epic Roasthouse on May 12th or May 26th 2011, starting at 4pm.
