The Newly-Expanded Virginia Museum of Fine Arts is donating One (1) Family Membership to the Woolridge Family!

The statement on the T-shirts was open-ended -- "I was inspired to . . . " It was up to the young children to decide how their visit to the newly expanded Virginia Museum of Fine Arts influenced them.

Eight-year-old Ben Cumming wrote on his T-shirt that he was inspired to design. A fan of renowned American architect Frank Lloyd Wright, Ben drew a colorful window after seeing examples of Wright's work in the museum.

Other children visiting on Day 2 of the museum's grand reopening drew garden scenes with trees, flowers and the sun on the shirts. Some simply wrote their names.

"It's amazing to see what they're doing," said Megan Liles, youth and family program coordinator at the VMFA. "The ideas are so different."

The art-education center was busy with activities geared for children. While some created art T-shirts, other youngsters made sketchbooks in an adjacent studio. Engaging children and families continues to be a mission for the museum. There are nearly 40 upcoming camps and classes scheduled for children.

"We have an enormous array of family activities and other educational programs that are planned," said Alex Nyerges, the VMFA director.
